Improvements to Whitfield Well

Date: 26/03/2007

Work has started on the final phase of improvements to Whitfield Well in Glossop.

Following on from some admirable hard work by volunteers, a small contract has been awarded to Valley View Landscape to repair the stonework and setts.

Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire is managing the contract, which should be completed by mid April.

The £12,000 contract has been funded through the Glossop Vision Board"s neighbourhood programme.

Chairman of Glossop Vision, John Hart, said: "The work on Whitfield Well forms one of a series of neighbour improvement projects, supported by the Vision Board, which ensures that the benefits of a cleaner, safer and greener environment extend beyond the major schemes in Manor Park and Glossop town centre."

Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire is part of a national federation of nearly 50 independent trusts, covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each trust works with its partners to improve the quality of the local environment, the lives of local people and the profitability of local business.

Groundwork"s purpose is to build sustainable communities through joint environmental action. This is achieved by encouraging local people, local businesses and other organisations to become involved in practical projects that improve their quality of life, bring about regeneration and lay the foundations for sustainable development.

Hundreds of projects are delivered each year in neighbourhoods, which are affected by high unemployment and crime levels; poor public health; run down housing, public spaces and waste ground; and struggling businesses.
