Glossop Vision work

Date: 13/11/2007

The Glossop Vision Board is arranging for the traders who have been affected by the Glossop Vision work to meet with Morrison Construction and Scott Wilson, the contract administrators who were appointed to oversee the design, engineering and delivery of the work.

Morrison's strong commitment to site and traffic management was one factor considered when the contract was awarded.

The Council has consistently and repeatedly asked for the working area to be managed in a more effective way, with breaks in the barriers made as soon as practicably possible without compromising health and safety laws. It is the duty of the contractors, Morrison Construction to manage the site - they do not have to ask the Council to break the barriers.

Delays to the programme and the method by which the contract has been managed have been disappointing. Despite the requests of Council officers, proposed actions are either not being implemented or not being performed within the timescales agreed.

The Council and Morrison Construction have met to try and recover confidence and address the management of the contract, and a revised programme is expected from the contractor.

John Hart, Chair of Glossop Vision Board, said: "It is hoped that the revised programme and the meeting with traders will help to rebuild some of the trust lost amongst town centre retailers; and that the programme will be delivered in a smarter and more managed way."
