Fluffy Morris takes off at Gamesley

Date: 15/11/2007

Gamesley Community Centre is running a new activity for girls: 'Fluffy Morris Dancing'.

Fluffy Morris Dancing is an energetic formation dance for girls, which is increasing in popularity in the north of England.

The Gamesley Vallerettes will be running a weekly Fluffy Morris session at Gamesley Community Centre for junior, young girls and women aged from 8 years old. This is the first in the High Peak area.

The Healthy Living Centre will be funding the establishment of the group until the end of March 2008.

Fluffy Morris is quite different to men's Morris Dancing, which is performed to an accordion and features handkerchiefs, sticks and flowery hats. Fluffy Morris dancers use taped music, which can include pop music and instrumental tunes.

The new session will be held at Gamesley Community Centre every Friday evening from 7.00 pm onwards. Dresses and footwear are provided. The cost is £2 per session.

Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Social and Community Development, said: "It is good to see that we are going to have our own Fluffy Morris troupe! This sounds like a fun activity that will improve fitness - come along and give it a try."
