As part of High Peak Borough Council's 'Going Local' initiative, High Peak Volunteer Rangers sanded down and re-painted several of the Torrs handrails.
This was part of a multi-agency 'Big Clean-Up' programme for New Mills organised by High Peak Borough Council, who contacted the Volunteer Rangers about a number of activities.
The 'Going Local' initiative forms part of the Area Forum Programme covering the whole of the High Peak. Each forum area has been allocated an improvement fund of £10,000 for local, community led projects, with a focus on cleaner, greener and safer themes.
Councillor David Lomax, Chair of the Central Area Forum, said: "Groundwork has done splendid job of painting the Torrs railings. New Mills is certainly looking a lot brighter after all the Big Clean-Up work."
Rachel Billings said: "We are always keen to hear from people who can spare a few hours to help their local area look better. It's a great way to meet new people with similar interests and get a real sense of achievement from a wide range of environmental improvements."
The High Peak Volunteer Rangers scheme is organised by Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire in partnership with, and on behalf of, High Peak Borough Council. The scheme began in Glossopdale in early 2005, made possible by local people coming forward to improve their local area and Volunteer Rangers now tackle untidy public areas in all of the Market Towns of High Peak Borough as part of the 'Going Local' initiative.
