Due to the success of supervised personal exercise courses, Glossop Leisure Centre has today announced further sessions for young people in the High Peak.
The courses, which are supervised by qualified National Academy trainers, are tailored to suit each participant individually. Personal cardiovascular programmes will include balance and co-ordination, speed, agility and strength training.
During the next course, young people will be working out in the gym twice a week for 45 minutes.
They will be training on cardiovascular machines such as treadmills, bikes, resistance equipment and weights,
Before signing up for a course, the participants will attend a personal assessment with a parent or guardian present. These 30-minute assessments will help the coaches to identify the specific needs and goals of each young person, so that an appropriate training plan can be drawn up.
At the end of the 8-week period, each child will be assessed to see what improvements have been made in areas such as strength, cardiovascular capacity, weight and body mass index (BMI).
The courses, which are open to young people of all levels of fitness and ability, are divided into two age categories: 11 to 13 years and 14 to15 years.
There will be 4 courses: 2 of them will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays between 4.00 and 4.45 pm and 4.45 to 5.30 pm; and the other 2 will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 4.00 and 4.45 pm and 4.45 to 5.30 pm. There will be no more than 6 children on each course.
The cost of each course is £60 and runs for 8 weeks.
Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Social and Community Development, said: "These fitness sessions have proved to be a great success and I know that the young people taking part have really enjoyed them. Results from the previous sessions show that by attending this course, improvements have achieved in strength, cardiovascular capacity, weight and body mass index. I would encourage any young person in the High Peak to take part in order to help them keep fit and healthy."
