Volunteers wanted for a clean-up at Harehills!

Date: 26/11/2007

Local people from Glossop are being asked to take part in a clean-up event in Harehills, taking place this Saturday.

The clean up has been organised by High Peak Borough Council, Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire and the recently formed Harehills Community Group. The aim of the clean up is to promote the new group and to encourage all members of the community to join them in taking a responsibility for their local town.

The clean up will involve tidying the entrance and path leading from High Street West, Glossop (at the side of the insurance brokers) as well as removing weeds and litter.

The event will take place on Saturday 1 December from 9.30am to 12.30am. Residents who want to get involved are invited to meet the rest of the team at the High Street West entrance. All the equipment will be provided, however, volunteers are reminded that warm clothing and suitable footwear should be worn.

Councillor Andrew Bingham, Executive Member for Community and Social Development said: "First of all, I am really pleased to hear that a local community group has been formed in Harehills - I know they have lots of events planned which will provide opportunities for people to make the town cleaner and tidier. If you have some free time, why not pop along this Saturday and support the group and help make a difference in your local community. I will be going along to help with the work and look forward to seeing you there."
