Free 2 hours parking for Christmas

Date: 23/11/2007

Thanks to a decision by High Peak Borough Council, the Borough's shoppers will have 2 hours free parking during the week before Christmas.

From Monday 17 December up to and including Christmas Eve, shoppers will have 2 hours free parking on all car parks. This will be in addition to the concession for residents that allows them free parking on all car parks (except Spring Gardens) between 8am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm.

After 2 hours, car park users will be required to pay the usual hourly rate.

Councillors are keen to encourage residents to shop locally and patronise local businesses and attractions and also to attract visitors.

Emily Thrane, Executive Member for Corporate Services, said: "We are delighted to be able to give our residents and visitors the Christmas shopping concession. The Council's wants to encourage a thriving economy in all of the Borough's towns and support the Shop Local campaign."
