Arcon Housing Association in partnership with High Peak Borough Council have successfully bid for Housing Corporation funding to enable the development of six affordable apartments in Whaley Bridge.
The total grant provided by the Housing Corporation is £214,000 and will fund a scheme that will consist of four apartments for rent and two for shared ownership. The scheme will start on site in December 2007 and will be completed by January 2009.
Applicants will be taken from the Council's housing register through the Choice Based Lettings System.
The provision of affordable housing in any part of the borough enables local people to find accommodation and also helps some applicants gain a foot on the housing ladder through shared ownership.
Attracting Housing Corporation funding enables the Council through the housing strategy team to work in partnership with 'Registered Social Landlords' to develop schemes throughout the borough.
Councillor Andrew Bingham, Executive Member for Social and Community Development said: "It is particularly important to develop affordable housing in the borough as house prices continue to rise pricing many local people out of the housing market and making it increasingly difficult for first time buyers.
"I am committed to developing housing schemes that will increase the opportunities for local people to get houses in the High Peak and the news of this funding is fantastic news for residents who are looking for affordable property to buy or rent."
