High Peak Magistrates have dismissed an appeal against the revocation of the Blues Club licence and upheld the Licensing Panel's decision to revoke the premises licence.
The Licensing Panel revoked the licence on 18 April 2007, because they considered that there was evidence of serious management failings in the operation of the Blues Club.
At the hearing last Friday, magistrates were given information about the on-going disturbance and noise nuisance experienced by neighbours of the Blues Club in Glossop, prior to the revocation of the licence. The police also gave evidence about incidents that had taken place both within the club and outside the premises, which culminated in an incident on the 4 February 2007, where a young man lost his life.
The magistrates considered that the management problems at the club were so fundamental that there was no alternative but to revoke the premises licence, and for that reason they upheld the decision of the Licensing Panel made on 18 April 2007 and dismissed the appeal.
Councillor John Haken, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for the Environment, said: "It is important that licensed premises within the High Peak are managed effectively; providing a safe and protected environment for people to socialise, in a way which allows residents to remain undisturbed."
