Autumn may have arrived, but Whaley Bridge is enjoying the benefits of a spring clean.
The town is looking a lot brighter thanks to the work of and volunteers and officers of Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire, Whaley Bridge Amenity Society and High Peak Borough Council.
Ward Councillor and Chair of Whaley Bridge Amenity Society, John Pritchard joined the High Peak Volunteer Rangers who did a litter pick, weeded the stone retaining wall along Canal Street, and planted alpine flowers in the wall. The Rangers also repainted 3 benches in the centre of Whaley Bridge.
High Peak Borough Council's Parks Section chose and sourced the plants and the paint.
The work was partly funded through the council's 'Going Local' initiative, and forms part of the Area Forum Programme covering the whole of the High Peak. Each forum area has been allocated an improvement fund of £10,000 for local, community led projects to be completed with a focus on cleaner, greener and safer themes.
Councillor David Lomax, Chair of the Central Area Forum, said: "The Going Local projects are all about making our towns more attractive. The benches and the wall look a lot smarter now, and help to make the town more inviting for residents and visitors."
