High Peak Mayor urges support for Poppy Week

Date: 30/10/2007

The Mayor of High Peak, Councillor Jean Wharmby, has pledged her support for the Poppy Appeal run by the Royal British Legion. She urged people to observe the two-minute silence on 11 November, and give generously for their poppy.

Councillor Wharmby said: "At 11am on Remembrance Sunday, millions of people across the nation will stop to remember those who fought in the conflicts of the past, and those who are still fighting for all of us today.

She added, "The Royal British Legion do a wonderful job providing support to ex-service people whose lives have been touched by conflict, and their families. The money you donate by buying poppies will fund their work throughout the year. Your help is vital to assist veterans both young and old, so please give generously."
