Rock solid improvement for Spring Gardens!

Date: 17/09/2007

The Spring Gardens shopping area is looking smarter because 10 damaged stone blocks have been replaced as part of the council's 'Going Local' campaign.

Altogether, 45 blocks of sandstone were originally installed 10 years ago. Over time, vehicles making deliveries to the businesses in the area have chipped and damaged 10 of the blocks.

The improvement was suggested at the Buxton Area Forum in March 2007, where the public and local groups were consulted about what improvements they would like to see in the town.

The replacement of the stones is one of the council's 'Going Local' initiatives, which form part of the Area Forum programme covering the whole of the High Peak. This initiative covers a range of community led projects, which are to be completed this year, with a focus on cleaner, greener and safer themes.

Councillor Jonathan Davey, Chairman of the Buxton Area Forum, said: "This is one of a number of improvements carried out through the 'Going Local' scheme. The replacement of the damaged stone blocks in Spring Gardens will improve the appearance of the area for both local people and visitors to the town.

He added: "There will be a review of the 'Going Local' projects at the next forum in October. Residents, groups, and business representatives are all invited to attend to find out more about the scheme and discuss other local issues."

The next Buxton Area Forum will be held at 7 pm on Thursday 11 October in the Octagon Lounge at the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton. Light refreshments will be served from 6.45pm. For further information call 0845 129 77 77 and ask to speak to the Policy Team or email policy@highpeak.gov.uk.
