High Peak Borough Council is asking residents for your opinions on the feasibility of establishing a Leisure Centre in Buxton that will meet the needs of local people, as well as university students and staff.
The Council wants to look at replacing the existing swimming pool in Buxton and developing a fitness suite. The University of Derby, Buxton, wants an indoor sports hall and fitness suite to replace their current leisure facility at Harpur Hill.
Both are keen to find out the views of local people and the type of leisure facilities you would like to see in town. People can choose from some of the following options:
We have set up a consultation process, which allows people to choose different variations of leisure facilities, as well as letting you prioritise which leisure facilities you would like to see available.
The survey can be accessed and completed online at www.highpeak.gov.uk/buxtonleisure or simply call into one of the Council receptions in Buxton, Chinley or Glossop, where the survey can be completed online at a computer terminal.
Once the selection of leisure facilities is established, it will be seen whether the choices can be accommodated in the sites that are currently being reviewed as possibilities for joint Council and University sports facilities.
Councillor Andrew Bingham, Executive Member for Social and Community Development said: "High Peak Borough Council and the University of Derby, Buxton are committed to providing the best leisure facilities possible for Buxton and the High Peak as well as visitors to the area. The Council would like to ask everyone to complete this survey as their opinion is extremely valuable and will help us to make important decisions on the development of the leisure centre."
The closing date for survey responses is Friday 12 October 2007.
