High Peak Borough Council has selected D C Leisure Management to operate the council's four leisure centres.
The proposal from D C Leisure, which was approved by the Executive last Tuesday, represents the best value deal to the council and the local community.
The new arrangement will allow the council to meet the cost of the planned maintenance at the 4 leisure sites for ten years and in addition invest over £3/4 million in improving the facilities.
It is hoped that D C Leisure will start operating the sites by January 2008, following final negotiations and contracts.
Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Social and Community Development, said: "It has been a long term aspiration of the council to improve our leisure centres, so that we encourage more people to become physically active and encourage young people to take up positive leisure pursuits.
"D C Leisure's proposal, after a thorough market testing exercise, was the strongest bid and should help the council to deliver the best quality and value for money services to our residents and visitors.
"They have a track record of delivering high quality services and are recognised nationally as a good employer. This partnership enables the council to invest in the buildings and provide activities that are attractive to our customers. I want the best facilities that we can offer for people right across the High Peak, this is the first step towards that aim."
