Every household in the borough should have now received an electoral registration form.
Reminders will be sent out in the next few days to those households who have not returned their forms. If there are any changes to the household, they should be recorded on the form, which should then be returned to the council as soon as possible.
Residents who do not return their forms will shortly receive a visit from council canvassers to collect it. By law the council has to make at least 2 visits to households that have not returned their forms. This is costly and can be inconvenient to residents.
If there are no changes to the household, residents can register using the free telephone registration service. The special telephone number is printed on the form. Alternatively, residents can register on the Internet. Instructions for Internet registration are also given on the form.
Using telephone or Internet registration is not only a very secure way of updating your details, it also helps the council save money on the cost of postage.
Everyone who lives at an address and is eligible to vote must be included on the electoral registration form.
The new Electoral Register will be published on 1 December 2007.
