Six win Shop Local prize finale

Date: 04/04/2008

The 'Shop Local' prize scheme came to an end last month with 6 lucky residents, scooping prizes of between £25 and £50.

The winners were Miss Vera Needham of Eldon Close Chapel-en-le-Frith, Mrs Rachel Chatterton from Bamford, Hope Valley, Mrs Cecilia Osborn from Hayfield, Mrs Simpson of Buxton Road, New Mills, Ms Kayleigh Lukaszewska of London Road, Buxton and Mrs E Kerry of Glossop.

Although the 'Shop Local' prize scheme is now closed, the retailers' toolkit, which has been well received by traders is still available for any new business. The pack includes details about marketing and keeping up with change, as well as providing useful sources of further information and assistance.

Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration said: "The Shop Smart, Shop Local campaign has been a resounding success for the High Peak and one that many other local authorities are interested in adopting for their own towns and villages.

"As a Council, we are continuing to support local retailers though a range of initiatives from shop front grant schemes, town centre improvements, regeneration partnerships and access to grants.

"We hope that the publicity achieved as part of this campaign has enabled local residents to better understand both the wonderful range of independent traders that we have on our doorstep, and that our high street shops will only survive if customers spend locally."

Shop Local toolkits, retailer case studies, and information on grants can be accessed via www.highpeak.gov.uk/shoplocal or call customer services on 0845 129 77 77 to request an information pack.
