Lottery windfall for playtime in the Peak

Date: 28/04/2008

Residents in Hadfield are invited to comment on how to spend grant money on Bankswood Park and play areas in Brosscroft and Newshaw Lane.

The funding is part of a £200,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund and aims to deliver a variety of improvements to play facilities throughout High Peak Borough.

Additional grant support of £10,000 is coming from Johnnie Johnson Housing, and will be used to develop the play area in Brosscroft.

Both awards follow the development of the Council's play strategy, Playtime in the Peak, which identified priorities for improvement.

It will build upon the £435,000 modernisation of play areas across the Borough, carried out over the past two years at Manor Park, Shirebrook, Gamesley and Whitfield in Glossop, Temple Street and Bankswood in Hadfield, and Ashwood Park and Green Lane in Buxton.

Residents living in Hadfield, near the park and play areas, will shortly be receiving a questionnaire to express their opinion on how they should be developed.

A drop-in meeting has also been planned for 15 May at Hadfield Youth Centre, where local people can call in, between 6pm and 8pm, to view and discuss the proposals.

Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Social and Community Development, said: "This is the next step of the Council's improvement plan for local play facilities and we want everyone living in the area to get involved and put forward their ideas.

"It's vitally important that as many people as possible give us their views on how we can spend this money, so please make sure you complete a questionnaire when you receive one. If you have time, why not come along to the meeting planned, where you can view some of the exciting proposals and discuss possible ideas with local Councillors and Council staff."
