The provision of a tourist information service at Glossop Heritage and Information Centre has exceeded all expectations
Initially, the service was provided on a trial basis for six months, supported by High Peak Borough Council, but now plans are in place to continue indefinitely.
The opening hours will be extended to six days a week during summer, opening Monday to Saturday inclusive, from 10am to 4pm each day.
It is hoped that residents, as well as visitors to the town, will benefit from these additional hours.
Staff have received training on all relevant databases and can supply information on events, public transport and accommodation. They are also agents for Wayfarer tickets and Woodward's excursions.
In addition to the large amount of free literature and brochures, there will be a wide range of guidebooks for walkers and cyclists, maps, local history books, postcards, local honey and a range of Kendal Mint Cake on sale.
Also, each autumn, they will create and stock a unique calendar of Glossop.
Upstairs, the Heritage Trust has frequently changing exhibitions on display alongside work from local artists. A wide range of work from local artists is also on sale.
