Veolia has expanded its municipal portfolio within Derbyshire, with the award of the waste and recycling collection contract with High Peak Borough Council. This new seven-year contract starts on Monday, August 4, for the collection of all commercial and domestic waste and recycling from the Borough's homes and businesses

The new fleet of vehicles is designed to improve the efficiency of kerbside collections, as well as maximise High Peak's overall recycling rates. Working in partnership with High Peak Borough Council, Veolia will make recycling easier and more effective for all residents.

John Haken, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Councillor for the Environment, said: "Our improved recycling rates, which hit 42% in May, show our residents' dedication and commitment to the environment. We are very aware of the environmental impact of our waste and are very excited about this new contract and fleet of vehicles that will help us to further improve our recycling rates over the next seven years. Our partnership with Veolia will allow us to continue meeting our recycling targets and therefore greatly reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, improving both our local and global environment."

He added: "Council staff have been transferred to provide the service, and will be working with an organisation that is renowned for its expertise in recycling and waste management. This contract will provide excellent value for money for our residents, saving them over £100,000 a year.

Veolia's Executive Director for Environmental Services, Tom Spaul said: "We are delighted to be starting our long term partnership with the Council and look forward to rolling out the new vehicles in early August, providing an excellent service to the residents of High Peak."
