Children, aged 16 and under, have been making the most of the Council's free swimming offer for young people, which is available during public swimming sessions until Sunday, September 7, 2008.

Total attendances by children at High Peak Borough pools, in the first three weeks of the summer holidays, have increased by nine per cent, compared with last year's figures. There has also been a 17% increase in the number of adult swimmers, suggesting a boost in family use of the pools.

The usual junior swim rate is £1.70 - so families with children, who swim regularly, are making a massive saving.

Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development, said: "I am delighted to see such a positive response to the free swimming offer, so far, this summer. Don't forget to make the most of the offer during the remaining two weeks of the holidays - especially as the wet weather is making outdoor fun a bit of a problem!"

Children, over eight years, may swim without an adult, if they can swim 50 metres (two lengths) in a recognised stroke.
