The annual canvass for the Electoral Register will start in the last week of August. Residents who are not on the register, will lose their vote.
Every household in the Borough will receive an electoral registration form within the next few weeks. If there are any changes to the household, they must be recorded on the form, which should then be returned to the Council, as soon as possible.
If there are no changes to the household, residents can register using the free telephone or internet registration service. Details of how to do this securely will be printed on the electoral registration forms.
It is important that everyone who lives at an address, and is eligible to vote, is accounted for on the electoral registration form. This includes European nationals.
There are two scheduled elections for 2009 - for Derbyshire County Council and the European Parliament.
The new Electoral Register will be published on Monday, December 1, 2008.
