Volunteers needed to clean up Harehills Park

Date: 05/02/2008

Local residents are being invited to roll their sleeves this Saturday to help clean up Harehills Park.

The clean up taking place on Saturday 9 February between 9.30am and 12 noon, has been organised by High Peak Borough Council, Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire and Harehills Community Group.

Representatives from the council's parks team will be on hand with bags, litter pickers and gloves to assist all budding volunteers. The planting of 3 new trees will also be taking place in the park during the clean up event.

Residents who want to get involved are invited to meet the rest of the team at the Market ground end on Philip Howard Road at 9.30am. All the equipment will be provided, however, volunteers are reminded that warm clothing and Wellington boots should be worn.

Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Social and Community Development, said: "This is a great opportunity for the community to get together and make the park cleaner and tidier.

"A similar clean up event was held at Harehills Park shortly before Christmas and we had a fantastic turnout and managed to tidy up the entrance to the park as well as removing weeds and litter. We are hoping for even more support for this event and I would urge as many people as possible to come along and help out."
