High Peak Borough Council is urging people to register now if they want to take part in the sponsored Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in Buxton this spring.
The Council is organising the Buxton Mile, which will take place on Sunday 16 March 2008 between 10am and 2pm. The starting point will be on the Pavilion Gardens promenade outside the Octagon.
Places are limited, so residents wishing to participate should sign up as soon as possible. Each runner will be given a choice of start times.
The Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile sits at the heart of the Sport Relief Weekend and is the ultimate way to get involved. As well as in Buxton, Mile events will take place in over 200 other locations across the UK, including Glossop.
In 2006, an amazing 400,000 men, women and children did a Mile for Sport Relief.
Sport Relief harnesses the power and passion of sport to change lives for the better. By doing sport, having fun and raising money, everyone can do well and feel good. Comic Relief spends the money raised to help vulnerable people living incredibly tough lives both at home in the UK and in the world's poorest countries.
Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Social and Community Development, said: "We're delighted that Buxton and Glossop have been selected to host these exciting events. We're looking forward to seeing hundreds of residents taking part, getting sponsored and raising money for Sport Relief. I will be taking part in both walks; Buxton at 10am and then hot footing it over to Glossop for the 11am start there. Register as soon as you can so you don't miss out on a fun event!"
