Standards Committee vacancies

Date: 27/02/2008

High Peak Borough Council is looking to recruit 2 independent members to sit on the Council's Standards Committee.

The Standards Committee plays a vital role in promoting and maintaining the highest standards of conduct by the councillors of High Peak Borough Council and all the Parish Councils in its area. As well as their other duties, the independent members of the committee deal with complaints about member misconduct. There are 3 independent members of the Committee in total, one of which is the Chairman, another the Vice Chair.

There is a small allowance of £250 a year in recognition of the important and responsible role played by an independent member. This increases to £975 for the Chairman of the Committee. Travel and subsistence allowance and dependent/child care allowance are also payable in appropriate cases.

Independent members must not be associated with any political party, and cannot have been a High Peak Borough councillor or officer during the last 5 years, or be a relative or close friend of a High Peak councillor or officer. They should also live in the borough, have some knowledge of local government and have a commitment to high standards of behaviour in all aspects of public and private life.

Standards Committee meetings are held at the Council Offices, Chapel-en-le-Frith, 4 times a year, normally in the evening.

The closing date for applications is 21 March 2008 (at 4 pm).

Please apply to Nicola de Bruin, Legal Services Manager, Council Offices, Hayfield Road, Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak, SK23 0QJ for an application form and further details or log on to the Council's web site at www.highpeak.gov.uk/aboutus/vacancy.asp.
