High Peak Borough Council is working with Arcon Housing Association and Nottingham Community Housing Association to build affordable homes at 2 new sites in the High Peak: Wharf Road in Whaley Bridge and Etherow Way in Hadfield.
The Wharf Road development of 6 affordable apartments, 4 for rent and 2 for shared ownership, is being built in partnership with Arcon Housing Association and is funded by a Housing Corporation grant of £214,000. The development is expected to be completed in February 2009.
The development in Etherow Way, Hadfield is being built in partnership with Nottingham Community Housing Association. A total of grant of £331,579 has been awarded by the Housing Corporation to build 7 affordable properties made up of one 3 bedroomed wheel chair adapted bungalow and 6 2-bedroomed houses. High Peak Community Housing will manage the homes, which are for rent. Building work has started and the scheme is expected to be completed in June 2008.
Housing Corporation grants enable the Council - through the Housing Strategy team - to work in partnership with Registered Social Landlords, such as Nottingham Community Housing Association and Arcon Housing Association to develop schemes throughout the Borough.
Peter Schilizzi of Arcon Housing Association, said: "We are very excited about starting work on developing these homes for people in Whaley Bridge. The new homes will be built to high specifications whilst remaining an affordable option for local people."
Steve Walker, Director of Development at Nottingham Community Housing Association, said: "We are delighted to be working with High Peak Borough Council to deliver new affordable housing for the people of High Peak. Nottingham Community Housing Association looks forward to working with the Council in the future to deliver its strategy for increased affordable housing across the Borough."
Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Social and Community Development, said: "This is terrific news. The provision of affordable housing is one of the Council's top priorities. We want to help local people who are unable to buy homes on the open market to gain a foot on the housing ladder through shared ownership."
Applicants for both schemes will be taken from the Council's housing register through the choice based letting system Home Options.
Residents can register by visiting the website www.home-options.org or by calling the High Peak Community Housing Officer at Municipal Buildings, Glossop or at Crescent View, Buxton. People can also contact High Peak Community Housing on 0845 129 8075 and speak to the customer service team.
