Residents in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales who rent private accommodation could soon be protected under a joint scheme, ensuring that all rented property is of a high standard and good quality.
The proposed Landlord Accreditation scheme aims to improve the standards of private rented accommodation and to develop closer working links between the two councils and private landlords - the scheme will be managed by Adullam Homes Housing Association on behalf of High Peak Borough Council and Derbyshire Dales District Council
The development of the scheme was discussed recently at a meeting attended by local landlords and key organisations. Landlords were given the opportunity to gather information, give their opinions about the proposed scheme and to talk to representatives of the fire, police and energy efficiency services, High Peak Community Housing, Environmental Health Officers and the National Landlords Association.
Councillor Simon Spencer, Chairman of the Partnership and Regeneration Committee said: "The joint scheme is good news for local people who rent accommodation from private landlords as this will mean that they will be assured of a good standard of housing. It will also support landlords providing quality standards that will help them manage their properties.
"The recent meeting that was held to discuss the Landlord Accreditation Scheme was well attended and proved to be a great success. We gained some valuable feedback from landlords in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales which we will use in the development of the scheme."
