The Energy Efficiency Advice Centre is working with the utility and insulation companies to install free loft and cavity wall insulation for people over 70 years old.
This scheme is available to anyone over 70 whether they live in rented or privately owned accommodation, regardless of their income.
This is a new scheme, forming part of the utility companies' new Carbon Emission Reduction Targets, set by central Government.
People in receipt of certain benefits can already have loft or cavity wall insulation installed for free.
Additionally, all householders are entitled to heavily subsidised prices for both cavity wall and loft insulation.
Councillor John Haken, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for the Environment, said: "Insulation keeps your home warm in winter and cool in summer. It helps to reduce heating bills and can prevent cold and heat related illnesses-particularly in vulnerable people. Please contact the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre to find out which benefits you may be entitled to."
High Peak Borough Council hosts the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre. The aim of the centre is to provide free and impartial energy advice to the public of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. It is funded by the Energy Saving Trust and the 17 local authorities in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
Please call the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre on 0800 512 012 to arrange for a survey to check if your house is suitable for these insulation measures.
