Join the Squirrel Green clean-up squad!

Date: 29/01/2008

High Peak Borough Council and Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire are inviting 'green-fingered' volunteers to help tidy up Squirrel Green in Chinley on Tuesday 12 February.

Local people are warmly encouraged to come along for an hour or two at anytime from 10am to 12.30pm, or between 1.30pm and 3pm to help tidy up this much loved local space.

Children are welcome by prior arrangement, provided a parent or carer accompanies them. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential.

The work is part of council's 'Going Local' initiative, and forms part of the Area Forum Programme covering the whole of the High Peak. Each forum area has been allocated an improvement fund of £10,000 for local, community led projects to be completed with a focus on cleaner, greener and safer themes.

Councillor David Lomax, Chair of the Central Area Forum, said: "Going Local is all about making our villages, towns and open spaces more attractive. Do come along and help the volunteers at Squirrel Green."

Rachel Billings of Groundwork, said: "This is one of a number of community environmental events held each year by Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire, which offer people the opportunity to meet up to improve local untidy areas. A variety of tools will be provided, along with work gloves and guidance will be given on what needs to be done."

Residents who can spare an hour or 2 may text or call Rachel Billings on 07841 071 365.
