Buxton Area Forum: keeping a lid on litter

Date: 29/01/2008

Buxton's Area Forum has ensured that one of town's leafier retreats - the Slopes - will be looking cleaner, greener and brighter now that covered litterbins have been fitted.

The new bins, which were funded by High Peak Borough Council's 'Going Local' initiative and the Parks Team, have replaced the open containers that allowed litter to get blown about. They will also stop the birds from grabbing at the rubbish and put a lid on refuse smells.

The 'Going Local' initiative is part of the Area Forum Programme covering the whole of the High Peak. Each Forum area has been allocated an improvement fund for local, community led projects with a focus on 'cleaner, greener, safer' themes.

The next Buxton Area Forum will be at the Pavilion Gardens on Wednesday 13 February.

Councillor Jonathan Davey, Chairman of Buxton Area Forum, said: "This is yet another improvement made through the Going Local fund, which aims to improve the appearance of local areas. Come along to the next Forum to find out more about the projects undertaken this year."

The main topic at the next Forum, which starts at 6:30 pm and finishes at 9 pm, is going to be policing and community safety. Those attending will be consulted about priorities for the Safer Neighbourhood Team over the coming year and residents will be able to question Councillors and Officers about local issues.
