There is good news for young people - the weekly evening street sport sessions are up and running until the end of March.
The free sessions, which are being run by High Peak Borough Council in partnership with Peak Active Sport, Derbyshire County Council's youth service and Co-op stores in New Mills follow the highly successful scheme introduced last year.
The activities, which are funded by Derbyshire County Council's 'Clean-ups' fund, are part of the 'Safer Communities Through Sport' project and are led by trained sports coaches. They are open to boys and girls aged between 11 and 19 years old. No booking is required - young people going to the area can just join in the wide range of sporting activities, which includes street hockey, basket ball and football.
The details of the sessions are as follows:
Councillor Andrew Bingham, High Peak Borough Council's Executive Member for Community and Social Development, said: "These street sports sessions are great, there is a wide range of sports on offer providing tremendous opportunities for young people to get together, enjoy themselves and also to keep fit into the bargain! If you want to stay active and have fun during the winter months please come along and bring your friends. There is no need to book - just turn up!"

The sports sessions will run until 31 March 2008.
