You're invited to chill and thrill

Date: 03/06/2008

Chill and Thrill on Friday evenings -- that's the invitation being sent to young people in Gamesley.

Every Friday, between 7pm and 9pm, young people aged 13 years and over, can drop in on the new sessions at Gamesley Community Centre. For £1.20, youngsters can either chill over a game of pool in the lounge area, or thrill -- playing sports on the courts with trained coaches.

The Chill and Thrill session is a partnership project between High Peak Community Safety Partnership -- who provided funding of £375, High Peak Borough Council, Gamesley Community Partnership and Derbyshire Police's Gamesely and Charlesworth Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Young people who are taking part in the Friday Gameblast session can join in with the Chill and Thrill activities for a total of £2 for both sessions.

PC Paula Doyle, of the Gamesley and Charlesworth Safer Neighbourhood team, said: "This is a great project. Together with our partners, we're finding something for our youngsters to do on a Friday night. Thrill and Chill provides a dry, safe place, where children will be able to socialise instead of hanging around the streets."

Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development, said: "I am delighted that another partnership project is up and running in Gamesley. The Council is keen to encourage young people to find constructive and healthy ways to pass their time. So why not drop in at Gamesely Community Centre to thrill and chill this Friday?"
