Glossop Vision Board election notification

Date: 12/06/2008

Glossop residents are invited to nominate five non-political Glossop Town Partnership members, including the Chair person, who will stand for election to the Glossop Vision Board.

The Glossop Vision Board is made up of a number of public, private and voluntary sector representatives, who aim to improve the vitality and prosperity of Glossop and its surrounding areas.

Board members have already helped to deliver a wide range of projects, including the town centre improvement scheme and the refurbishment programme at Manor Park. Other projects include those designed to increase environmental education and awareness, and those that support local retailers, such as the Shop Smart, Shop Local campaign.

Anyone living or working in Glossop is eligible to stand for election. No previous experience is required. Candidates are expected to commit to attending evening board meetings on a monthly basis and, where applicable, to take part in training to help them assess and monitor projects.

To apply, candidates are asked to submit a written statement of no more than one side of A4 paper, outlining why they wish to stand. They should include whether they are a resident, business owner or representative of a group, and detail the skills they will bring to the position. Nominations must be returned by Friday 11 July.

The election of the Glossop Vision Board will take place at the next Glossop Vision meeting, to be held at 6.30pm on Thursday 24 July, at Bradbury Community House, Market Street, Glossop. Candidates may be asked to answer a few brief questions at the meeting.

John Hart, Chair of Glossop Vision, said: "The success of Glossop Vision so far has been dependent on the valuable input of residents and local people. This is why it is so important that they are represented on the board."
