Help shape the future of Woods Mill

Date: 24/06/2008

High Peak Borough Council is inviting comments on our plans for developing Woods Mill.

Woods Mill

The Woods Mill Interim Planning Statement details the Council's vision for this area and provides advice and design guidance for potential developers, and detailed criteria for assessing development proposals.

Woods Mill is a key site, adjacent to the town centre, and has the potential to contribute to the wider regeneration of Glossop. The development of the site should take account of its history to create a distinctive environment, which also capitalises on its closeness to local amenities.

The Interim Planning Statement has been prepared by consultants, following the withdrawal of the Woods Mill Area Action Plan, on the advice of Government Office.

The Council was concerned that the redevelopment of the site would be prejudiced without a clear policy framework to consider development proposals. The Interim Planning Statement provides planning advice, until the core strategy is adopted in 2011.

It is not a statutory planning document and does not have development plan status. However, it does reflect current national planning policy guidance and can be used as a consideration in determining planning applications.

Linda Baldry, Executive Councillor for Planning, said: "We have produced the Interim Planning Statement to ensure the development of an attractive and vibrant mixed use neighbourhood at the Woods Mill site. The Council wants to see a high quality development that reflects the unique setting and provides a range of residential and employment opportunities. Please take a look at the plans and pass on your comments to us."

The consultation period is until 10 July.
