Council curbs unauthorised development in Glossop

Date: 06/05/2008

High Peak Borough Council has put a halt to an unauthorised development on Queen Street in Glossop.

The Council received complaints from local residents that work on a proposed housing scheme had begun, prior to the granting of planning permission to Planmart Ltd, and the signing of an accompanying legal agreement.

Planning officers visited the site in Queen Street and advised the contractors for Planmart Ltd that they had no permission to build the houses. After the builders refused requests to stop work, a temporary stop notice was served, bringing the development to a halt.

The temporary stop notice will halt work for a period of 28 days, but can be followed up with other action, if required.

Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration, said: "The Council acted promptly to stop this building work that was taking place without consent. Where necessary, we shall not hesitate in taking formal action to tackle unauthorised development."
