Manor Park Bowling Club is starting an after school club, as part of its Glossopdale Youth Bowling Project.
The club will start on Friday 16 May and continue every Friday until the school summer holidays.
Young people are invited to attend the 'free and easy' sessions between 3.45pm and 5pm. The cost is £1 per session and there is no need to book a place -- just turn up.
The after school club complements the New Age Bowls partnership project, between High Peak Borough Council, St Philip Howard Sports College and High Peak School Sport Partnership, that introduces a programme of bowls training within schools.
Young people, who attend the after school club and decide that they enjoy the sport, will be welcomed as members of Manor Park Bowling Club. Membership for the under 15s is free, and those aged 15 to 18 pay £5 a year. Full adult membership is £25 (seniors £20).
Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development, said: "The Council works with private and public partners to improve access to sport for all age groups in the community. The after school bowling club is a wonderful way of introducing the sport to young people. I pay tribute to and thank Manor Park Bowling Club for their initiative and efforts in helping to provide opportunities for young people to try something new."
Dave Collier, of Manor Park Bowling Club, said: "The club is looking forward to opening the opportunity of bowling up to the children and young people of the Glossopdale community. The sport is inclusive and welcomes children of all abilities."
