Buxton Tourist Information Centre moves to the Pavilion Gardens

Date: 20/05/2008

Buxton's Tourist Information Centre (TIC) is moving from the Natural Baths to the Pavilion Gardens complex.

The Crescent

The TIC is moving because the Natural Baths -- its home for the last 20 years -- now forms part of the Buxton Crescent and Spa restoration.

Its relocation to the Pavilion Gardens will allow this important heritage led regeneration project to go ahead. The centre is expected to remain at the Pavilion Gardens while the three-year Crescent development is completed.

The current site will close after Bank Holiday Monday, on May 26, 2008, and will reopen at the Pavilion Gardens on Thursday 29 May.

Basic information will be available at the Pavilion Gardens during the interim period, but the accommodation service and sales will be suspended while the computers and till system are transferred.

The TIC will operate in the atrium next to the current retail shop at the Pavilion Gardens complex.

It will be open seven days a week, between 9.30am and 5pm, and the telephone number and email addresses will remain unchanged. The new postal address will be

Pavilion Gardens

Buxton Tourist Information Centre,

Pavilion Gardens,

St John's Road,

Buxton

Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration, said: "We wanted to make sure that the Buxton TIC moved to the Pavilion Gardens before the summer season is in full swing. Its new location will help to ensure that this wonderful feature of Buxton is highlighted for new visitors, and they can take the opportunity of enjoying all the attractions offered before continuing their tour of the town and surrounds. The Gardens has handy parking and excellent catering facilities, so they can relax over a coffee or something more substantial to fortify themselves before continuing their visit. I see this as a very positive move for both visitors and the local economy."
