Young people from Gamelsey will be 'gameblasting' their way through Friday evenings from now on.
'Gameblast' is a new game console session that gives young people the opportunity to play in a supervised and safe place at Gamesley Community Centre.
Gamesley Community Centre Partnership, the Big Lottery, Safer Communities, High Peak Community Housing, and Derbyshire Constabulary have provided the funding for Gameblast, which features the latest games on the most popular consoles.
The 45-minute 'Gameblast' sessions, which start on Friday, May 30, cost £1. There are two sessions for the under-12s at 6pm and 6:45pm, and two sessions for those aged 13 and over, at 7:30pm and 8:15pm. Places must be booked as each session is strictly limited to 14 places. There will be strict monitoring of game ages and suitability.
Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development, said: "Gameblast offers not only a diversionary activity, but also the opportunity for young people to come together and have fun through using the latest physically interactive games. This is an innovative scheme that clearly shows how agencies, through consulting with young people, can provide popular and engaging activities."
