Dog-owners and dog-lovers alike are invited to the Whaley Bridge Memorial Park, on Sunday, June 1, 2008, to enjoy some canine capers.
The Whaley dog show is just for fun event, which starts at 11am and finishes at 2pm. It has been organised jointly by High Peak Borough Council, leading veterinary charity PDSA, Whaley Bridge Town Council, Derbyshire Police, the Friends of Memorial Park and local dog walkers. The activities, which will take place on the grassed area by the Wheatsheaf Road entrance to the park, will start with the dog show, run by PDSA.
Four-legged contestants eager to enter classes such as the 'waggiest tail', 'best puppy' and 'best trick' must lead their owners to the show area for 11 am. Dog agility demonstrations will take place throughout the day.
Dog-owners will be able have their pooches microchipped at a reduced cost, and can pick up some tips at the free dog training sessions.
A Derbyshire Police dog handler will be paying a visit and PDSA and Friends of the Memorial Park will be manning display stands.
Food and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
Younger folk can visit the 'pat the dog' area to make some new furry friends and enjoy the children's rides. They will also find out the winners of the dog poster competition, entered by Taxal and Fernilee, and Whaley Bridge primary schools.
Kerry Wood, PDSA Regional Fundraising Co-ordinator, said: "I'd like to encourage as many people as possible to enter their dogs into the fun dog show and help support PDSA. PDSA relies entirely on the generosity of the public to fund its free PetAid services treating sick and injured pets."
John Haken, Executive Councillor for the Environment, said: "The dog show has been arranged by partners, in response to issues surrounding dog control, raised by the Whaley Bridge Town Council, a few months ago. We hope that this fun event will help to remind everyone about responsible dog control and welfare."
