Date: 12/11/2008

High Peak Borough Council will receive a £274,378 grant from the Department of Communities and Local Government because of our successful record in housing and planning.

The 2008-2009 Housing and Planning Delivery Grant is awarded for plan making, joint working and ensuring a steady supply of land for house building in the Borough.

The Council has received £36,000 more than initially expected; and the award to High Peak far exceeds those for neighbouring councils -- Derbyshire Dales received £118,658 and Staffordshire Moorlands £105,377.

Linda Baldry, Executive Councillor for Planning, said: "We are very pleased to have received this award because it shows that we have got the balance right in providing sound plans for homes for local needs, whilst protecting the environment of the High Peak."

The Housing and Planning Delivery Grant replaces the Planning Delivery Grant that has been awarded over the last three years.
