Buxton schoolboy becomes High Peak Mayor for a day

Date: 14/10/2008

A Buxton schoolboy, Giann Magno, will become Mayor for a day, tomorrow (Wednesday, October 15), as part of Local Democracy Week.

The pupil of St. Anne's Roman Catholic Primary School, in Lightwood Road, Buxton, will be spending the day "shadowing" the Mayor of High Peak, Councillor Robin Baldry. Giann will receive a cheque for just over £200 for charity, from Janet Dickinson, High Peak Borough Council's Customer Services Manager.

The money, raised by staff during National Customer Services Week, will be donated to the High Peak Mayor's Charities Fund, and will be distributed among local charities at the end of the mayoral year.
