The Mayor of High Peak, Councillor Robin Baldry, has pledged his support for the Poppy Appeal run by the Royal British Legion. He urged people to observe the two-minute silence on Armistice Day on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, and to give generously for their poppy.
Councillor Baldry, who is attending the service at Buxton Community School on Armistice Day, said: "Please join me in observing the two minute silence on Armistice Day. At 11am, on Tuesday 11 November, as in previous years, millions of people across the nation will stop to remember those who fought, and those who are still fighting, for all of us today. If we are to maintain our peace and freedom, we must always remember."
He added, "The Royal British Legion does a wonderful job providing welfare and support to ex-service people whose lives have been touched by conflict, and their dependants. The money you donate by buying poppies, in the next few days, will fund their work throughout the year. Your support is vital to help veterans, both young and old. Please give generously."
Remembrance Sunday falls on November 9, this year.
