New laws to tackle illegal parking, due to be introduced on Monday, November 24, 2008, have now been postponed following a decision made by the Government's Department for Transport.
Derbyshire County Council is working in partnership with borough and district councils, including High Peak, to take over responsibility for on-street parking enforcement, in a bid to tackle illegal parking and keep traffic moving.
Under the new arrangement, known as Civil Parking Enforcement, High Peak Borough Council will manage the scheme on the County Council's behalf, overseeing both on-street and off-street parking.
Parking illegally will no longer be a criminal offence, but a civil one, enforced by parking attendants and civil enforcement officers, who will issue penalty charge notices.

"The County Council is trying to establish the new start date. As soon as we have more information, we will let people know on our website and in the local media."
