High Peak Borough Council has secured a significant amount of funding from the Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership (DDEP) to complete a comprehensive Masterplan for Bingswood Industrial Estate and the surrounding area.
Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration, said: "The Borough Council are committed to facilitating the construction of a second access bridge across the River Goyt into Bingswood Industrial Estate and securing future employment opportunities on that site.
"The Masterplan is a critical piece of work that will determine how this access will work in practice and the opportunities that it will create for the development of the surrounding area."
The Masterplan will incorporate Bingswood Industrial Estate, land to the north and the Canal Basin to the south and will complement work by British Waterways exploring future uses for the Transhipment Warehouse facilitating the regeneration of the whole canal basin area.
Councillor Kemp added: "We will be disseminating information to landowners, businesses and other stakeholders as the study unfolds. Once completed we will have a detailed plan that can be used to drive forward the construction of the Goyt Bridge."
DDEP Chief Executive Kevin Edwards said: "The information provided through the Masterplan process will establish the full development potential of the employment land at Bingswood Industrial Estate. The actual delivery of the development will have a tremendous impact for Whaley Bridge Town creating a number of new employment opportunities".
Specialist consultants will be appointed to undertake the work, which will take place between November 2008 and April 2009.
