Promoting community safety in Fairfield

Date: 20/04/2009

Fairfield residents who are worried about crime and anti-social behaviour will have the chance to air their concerns at a Community Safety Team walkabout on Thursday 30 April from 2pm to 4pm.

The walkabout forms part of Operation Blue Gill - a campaign to reduce domestic burglaries in Buxton and Glossop.

Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Community and Social Development, Hannah Cocker, High Peak Borough Council's Anti Social Behaviour Officer and officers from Derbyshire Police will be taking part in the event.

Councillor Bingham said: "I hope that Fairfield residents will take the opportunity to come and chat to us on the walkabout. High Peak is a low crime area and safe to live in. This walkabout will help to provide valuable information to keep the High Peak safe at a time when burglary could increase because of the economic downturn."

"We also want to know how the Council and the Police can help residents with their concerns, and welcome views and discussions about the way forward in Fairfield."

Inspector Tony Dales from Derbyshire Police said: "This event is a good opportunity for the public to say what they feel about any concerns they have and their thoughts about the way the area is policed. This is an extension to our burglary operation where we have targeted over 400 hundred homes offering crime prevention advice and the opportunity to identify vulnerable people through the first contact signposting scheme."

To book a place on the walkabout, please ring Hannah Cocker (Anti Social Behaviour Officer) on 0845 129 77 77 ext 2056.
