Weight watchers have been offered a free chance to follow a six-week programme boasting average weight loss of between four and six pounds plus one to two inches off the waist.
The invitation was extended this week by High Peak Borough Council, which is working with NHS Tameside and Glossop to deliver a Weight Matters course at Gamesley Community Centre, starting on Tuesday 15 September and running from 1pm to 2.30pm.
The course is open to anyone aged over 16 with a Body Mass Index of 25+. The centre also hosts a free weekly weigh in between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Mondays.
Weight Matters will cover topics including:
The course will be delivered by qualified NHS trainers who will also advise on making the right choices when eating out, getting active, managing stress and improving self esteem.
Satisfied followers of previous courses include Susan, from Glossop, who enthused: "The course helped me understand how to change my lifestyle - and I've lost weight!"
Said Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "A balanced diet and regular exercise are crucial to a healthy weight and lifestyle. Weight Matters is there to offer a helping hand by enabling people to get in shape together, and perhaps make new friends as well".
