Customers of New Mills Leisure Centre have been urged to have their say on plans for a new fitness suite.
The invitation was extended this week by High Peak Borough Council and DC Leisure Management, which have pledged to improve health and fitness facilities at the New Mills centre as part of their continuing investment in leisure.
The partners have devised two options, both of which envisage converting the gymnasium into a crèche and extending the lounge to create a group exercise area.
But where the two proposals differ is that Option One involves the replacement of two squash courts with a large, open-plan fitness suite. In contrast, Option Two advocates replacing a single squash court with a two-level fitness suite.
Said Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "We're committed to working with DC Leisure to provide first-rate facilities that will promote healthy lifestyles. However, we want to take full account of the views of customers and prospective customers before we finalise our plans. Therefore, I'd encourage people to have their say as soon as possible".
Consultees have until Sunday 6 September to make their views known by sending an e-mail to enquiries@newmillsleisurecentre.co.uk or writing to the leisure centre. Respondents are asked to give their name and address to enable the council and DC Leisure to respond to suggestions.
The plans can be viewed on the council's website at www.highpeak.gov.uk.
