Walkers have been urged to put their best foot forward for the Poppy Appeal on Wednesday 21 October.
The invitation was extended this week by High Peak Borough Council, which has lined up three walks varying in distance from three to eight and a half miles.
The first of the walks is a trek from Glossop to Chinley, starting at 10am from Glossop Town Hall, and will be followed by an expedition from Buxton to Chinley, leaving Buxton Town Hall at 11am. Last but not least, there will be a walk from Hayfield to Chinley, setting off at 12.30pm from Hayfield Information Centre.
Said Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "These walks are part of our Walks for Health programme and, whilst there's no need for participants to seek sponsorship if they don't wish to, if walkers would take this opportunity to raise money for the Poppy Appeal it would be a great help to the appeal. At a time when the casualties amongst our forces in Afghanistan seem to occupy the news every day, likewise in Iraq, every penny raised for the Poppy Appeal is crucial for our forces".
Further information is available from community sports co-ordinator Paul Evans on 0845 129 77 77 ext. 2209. However, people can just turn up on the day if they prefer.
