Looking for some family fun before the new school term starts - then look no further! There's plenty to do at next month's family fun day - an event to celebrate the opening of the newly refurbished play area in Harpur Hill.
The event will be held on 5 September at 1.30pm, with an official opening of the play area at 2pm by Councillor Robin Baldry.
Funding for the £65,000 refurbishment has come from the BIG Lottery's Play Programme and Derbyshire County Council's Playbuilder Funding.
Events on the day include a fairground ride on Burlow Road followed by a free family disco at Harpur Hill Club from 2pm until 6pm. Children will be able to plant shrubs in the garden inside the park to commemorate the opening. Refreshments will be available inside Harpur Hill Club along with a tombola and face painting.
Said Andrew Bingham, the Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "The refurbishment of these important play facilities is great news for families and children in Harpur Hill. This will be a great event to round off the summer holidays with lots of activities for people to take part in."
PC Anna Gaskell of the Safer Neighbourhood Team for Harpur Hill who has worked with Harpur Hill Residents Association to organise the event said: "Local children had a large input in the parks designs which has now been in use for several weeks. It would be really fantastic to see residents young and old turn out to celebrate what the community has achieved."
