High Peak Borough Council wants local people to get involved in the future development of their towns and villages.
The East Midlands Regional Plan requires that 6,000 homes be built in the Borough up to 2026. Some of houses already have planning permission or are under construction, but land for about 200 homes per year still needs to be identified.
The Council has published a series of maps which set out possible development options for the settlements in the area. These are general locations where new homes might be built over the next 20 years. Each map represents a 'menu' from which the best options will be chosen.
"We don't have any choice about the numbers of homes that are built in the area, but we can choose the best place for them to go. That's why we are asking local people to look at the maps, think about how their own area may grow in future and tell us what they think" said Adrian Fisher, Head of Regeneration at High Peak Borough Council
"We don't need all of the options shown on the maps, that's why we're asking residents for their opinion on the best areas. If people have other ideas about how their area could develop in the coming years, then we want to hear about that as well" he concluded.
The growth options will be incorporated into the Joint Derbyshire Dales & High Peak Core Strategy which sets out the long term development of the area up to 2026.
