Christmas came early for a Glossop pensioner when she won a £100 festive hamper for shopping locally.
The seasonal hamper was put up for grabs by High Peak Borough Council in a prize draw for shoppers supporting the area's indoor and outdoor markets in the run-up to Christmas.
Brim full of goodies including champagne, port, chocolates, biscuits, coffee, tea and pickled onions, the prize was won by 80-year-old Rita Menzies, of Hall Meadow Road.
The council had handed draw vouchers to all Buxton, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Glossop and New Mills market traders participating in the Shop Smart Shop Local scheme.
For each purchase made, customers got a stamp to stick on their voucher. Once customers had three stamps, they were able to enter their voucher into the draw.
Said Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration: "As Mrs Menzies will testify, local market traders offer their customers excellent value and choice. Our Christmas promotion gave residents the opportunity to rediscover the benefits of having a local market.
"And the initiative gave us a chance to spread some seasonal cheer as well", he added.
